Filco supermarkets raise funds to save lives !!!!
South Wales supermarket chain Filco, donated £1,000 to Cowbridge Community First Responders who help save lives in the local community.

The Nisa member's stores in Taibach, Llantwit major, Cowbridge, Caerau, North Cornelly, Sarn, Talbot Green, Bryntirion and Maesteg raised the monies for a defibrillator through their membership of Nisa and its Making A Difference Locally (MADL) charity. MADL is an independent registered charity created in 2008, which enables retailers to raise money through the sale of participating products promoted in store where a specified amount of the cost of the product is allocated to a fund.

Ian Hunt, managing director for Filco Supermarkets Ltd, said: "It is important to be part of your local community and we are delighted to put the money towards a piece of life-saving equipment. We are proud to be able to make a difference in our area.

"The Making A Difference charity is an easy way to raise funds for charities and worthy causes."

Lynne Duance from Cowbridge Community First Responders, said: "The £1,000 has enabled us to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) with the aim of shortening response times and hopefully helping to save lives in Cowbridge and the surrounding areas.

"The use of an AED can dramatically increase the chances of survival if a patient's heart stops beating- but it must be used promptly. Brain cells start to die within three to four minutes of a cardiac arrest and for every one minute delay in delivering the shock, the patient's chance of survival reduces by up to 10%."
